NOUN Needs More Funding From FG, Others – VC

The Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria(NOUN), Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, has complained of lack of funds from the federal government and other stakeholders to enable the institution fulfilled it’s mandate of advancing the cause of tertiary education in Nigeria.

Professor Tenebe said there is the need for deliberate funding from the federal government to ensure the establishment of the university across the nooks and crannies of the country in order to bring tertiary education to the door steps of all nigerians at affordable cost.

‎The VC who said this during the inauguration of the centre, NOUN Offa Community Study Centre in Offa, said that it is the seventh of such centre, facilitated through communal efforts in Nigeria.

Professor Tenebe particularly commended the sole efforts of Olofa of Offa, Oba Mustapha Gbadamosi for making the study centre a reality for the people of Offa and the environs to benefit from and urged other traditional rulers across the country to emulate such gestures.

He invited all capable communities to partner with NOUN in its quest to bring tertiary education to the grassroots.

Answer: Like other conventional universities, NOUN cannot start all programmes at the time. However, the present collection of available programmes was informed by a market survey which revealed the areas of lack/insufficient professional hands in the society.

Question 2: Please can you take time to fully explain whatCriminology and Security Studiesand, Peace and Conflict Resolution are all about.
Are they in any way similar or associated with/to Law?

Answer: Here’s an explaination as to what criminology and Security Studies is:

This is a programme that is very relevant to the activities of Security agents.

Peace and Conflict Resolution: While Peace and Conflict Resolution is a programme which is associated and relevant to the present day needs as per resolving conflicts around the world.

For example, in Nigeria there is a commission which is set up for this particular purpose. For the three programmes there are common courses which are offered.

Question 3: Can a law be put in place for multinational companies to request for NOUN students for industrial training?

Answers: This law can not be put in place for now, because this is not even DONE by the Nigeria Universities and, NOUN is not an exception to this.

Question 4: Where and how frequent will practical hold for Nursing, Information Technology etc

Answer: When the time comes such students will be duly informed and the full information will be released to the public through this platform of NOUN for Nigerians, noun.com.ng.

Question 5: Will I serve after graduation, that is, will i be able to serve in NYSC?

Answer: Yes! all NOUN graduands will  serve their country. However, since NYSC specifies Age, ONLY students whose age fall within the NYSC age range will serve the nation.

Question 6: Can I write the NOUN examination in any Study Centre which is closest to me?

Answer: Even if you are not closer to your study centre during the exam period, you can not, and will not write the the exam in any other study center. You can only write your exam at the Study Centre which holds your registration record.

Question 7: When do I go for NOUN registration?

Answer: THE date of commencement of registration will be communicated to you through the platform news portal at noun.edu.ng

Question 8: Can anyone change their study centre after a successful registration?

Answer: Absolutely Yes! You can do so, but with clearly stated reasons for the change which you must submit to the new center. Please meet your leader before making such move.

Question 9: Why can’t aspirants/students register once in a session instead of every semester?

Answer: Well, it would be nice to register once a session, but the truth is that you have to pay per semester, and this is because, payments are determined by the number of courses one offers per semester. Hope you understand.

Question 10: Can payment be made by installment (half payment)?

Answer: No, NOUN is not an exception in this, other Nigeria Universities also made it clear that you can’t make payment by installment.

However, if you are having financial difficulties, you can pick the number of courses you can afford at a time, which is why we made it mandatory for students to register per session.

Question 11: Can we purchase our course materials from bookshops?

The answer is clearly No. You must buy it within your study centers. However, you can purchase/buy other materials that can help you in your studies.

NOUN Law Graduates Will Soon Be Admitted Into Law School

We just got informed that theNational Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has publicly announce that Law graduates of the NOUN academic institution will soon be admitted into the Nigerian Law School.

This information was made know to our correspondent the by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ado Tenebe during the Convocation ceremony.

According to the institution VC,  he disclosed that the school management board, are making and putting efforts together, to make sure, that this project is realized.

Here’s his exact words and we quote him directly:

“We are at an advanced stage of making this project come to realization, and this is achievable, because respected and renown Nigerians like the former President of the federation, Olusegun Obasanjo, who is also one of our students, and respected citizen of Nigeria, have taken it upon themselves to help the school make contact with the authorities to allow our graduates go through the Law School and participate in the bar.” He discloses.

It is also important that we note here, that C. U. Mmuozoba of the Nigerian Law School, located in Enugu Campus, has assured the students of his full backing to make sure that every law graduate of the Nigeria open varsity who successfully completes his/her programme is admitted to the Law School.

C.U Mmuosoba, who spoke on ‘Legal Education In New Age’, on the convocation occasion, however, went on to explained that, “It is not that the Nigerian Law School is averse to admitting open varsity graduates.

What the lingering problem is, is about relevant stakeholders not having been able to put the enabling structures in place at the open varsities.

Mmuozoba tried talking peace with the angry and agitated students, saying that although it’s not fair for Open University to take your money, make you spend years gaining legal knowledge and say they you cannot go to Law School, saying that he’s fully behind the students, but asked them peacefully, to be civil in their agitation. Noviolence would see the end of this, he finally said.

This is an important information to all project students.

The NOUN Nigeria management board wishes to inform all project students that the following conditions must be met before they can be assigned a supervisor, and the conditions are listed below;

GPA – GP Calculations For NOUN Students

After the result has been released, what is next?

Well, am pretty sure that everyone are having good time. While many of us are curious about calculating our GPA or GP. While the others are just anxious to know more about what their GPA looks like at the moment.

However, this information is even more useful to those who remember to check their scores and even documented their scores before leaving the examination hall.

Okay, now is the time on how you can easily commence calculate your examination score. I’m pretty sure that many people are familiar with this calculation, while others don’t know how to calculate theirs.

It is also important that you should note here, for those who are yet to know, that they can calculate their scores using the examples below.

Example;

Let me say, i did a course ECN101, and I scored 65 in the computer based exam. My calculations will go like this;

65 x 70 = 4,550.

Then, you should proceed and divide it by 120, and this goes like this:

4,550 ÷ 120 = 37.9.

That means your score over 70 in the examination, is 37.9/70.

Please, also take note, that for all students, who did the full complete 150 (One hundred and fifty) questions in a particular exam or more, you will have to divide by the number of questions. It is not always 120.

Lets also assume you score for 4 TMAs were as follows;

TMA1 = 9.5,
TMA2 = 8.00,
TMA3 = 9.00,
TMA4 = 7.5, respectively.

For you to successfully and rightfully calculate this, you’ll need to calculate the best 3 TMAs, which will be like this;

9.5 + 9.00 + 8.00 = 26.5.

This will give you, a total of 26.5, and your test score over 30. That means you scored 26.5/30.

While for you, to get your overall score over 100. You’ll be adding exam score + test score= 37.9 + 26.5= 64.4. So, my total score for the course ECN101 would = 64.4/100. Which is a ‘B’.

Before we venture into GPA calculations; Note that;

70-100= A.
60-69= B.
50-59= C.
45-49= D.
40-44= E.
39 downwards= F.

Now, let us assume, I did 11 courses and this was how my score went in the 11 courses after calculating scores, with their units in front of them. Let’s assume these were my courses, grades & units;

1) ECN101 – B. 2unit course
2) TFC116- B. 2unit course
3) ENT121 – C. 3unit course
4) BAT128- C. 2unit course
5) GMB142 – A. 2unit course
6) BRF136- A. 3unit course
7) KFC108- A. 2unit course
8) GEJ158 – D. 3unit course
9) OBJ114 – D. 2unit course
10) IBB131 – E. 2unit course
11) FFK104- F. 2unit course

Now, we have 11 courses, with their grades & units in front of them. Let’s understand the grades;

A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1, F=0.

Now, let’s start with the first course ECN101 for calculation.

I scored B in ECN101 above. Since B= 4.
I’ll multiply 4 by the unit of the course, which is a 2unit course.
So; 4 x 2unit= 8. So for ECN101 = 8.

Next is TFC116, I scored B as well. Since it is a 2unit course, I’ll calculate 4 x 2units= 8. So, TFC116 = 8.
Next is ENT121, it was a C. C = 3, which is a 3 unit course. So, calculation will be; 3 x 3units= 9. ENT121= 9.
Next is BAT128, I scored C, which is a 2unit course. The calculation will be; 3 x 2units= 6. BAT128= 6.
Next is GMB142, I scored A. A=5, which is a 2unit course. So; 5 x 2units= 10. GMB142= 10.
Next is BRF136, I scored A, which is a 3unit course. So; 5 x 3units= 15. BRF136= 15.
Next is KFC108, I scored A, which is 2unit course. So: 5 x 2units= 10. KFC108 = 10.
Next is GEJ158, which is a 3unit course, I scored D, D = 2. So; 2 x 3units= 6. GEJ158= 6.
Next is OBJ114, which is a 2units course, I scored D. So; 2 x 2units= 4. OBJ114= 4.
Next is IBB131, which is a 2units course, I scored E. E = 1. So; 1 x 2units= 2. IBB131= 2.
Next is FFK104, which is a 2unit course, I scored F. F = 0. So; 0 x 2units= 0. FFK104=0.

Now, having done all the 11 courses calculation, we will have to finalized it by adding all the course calculations together. So that will give us;

8 + 8 + 9 + 6 + 10 + 15 + 10 + 6 + 4 + 2 + 0 = 78.

Now, add the total units of all the course together;

2 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 25.

So, divide the added course calculation by total units.

Which is; 78 ÷ 25 = 3.1.

So, there you have it, your GPA is 3.1. That is 2nd class lower.

Please, also take note that;

First Class: 4.50 and above.
Second Class Upper: 3.50-4.49.
Second Class Lower: 2.50-3.49.
Third Class: 1.50-2.49.

How To Pay NOUN School Fees in Installment

THE issue with the high cost of schooling in NOUN has always been a huge problem for students of the institution, but here on NOUNCAMPUS, we have discovered a very easy way on how you can pay through installment.

The truth is that we all know that money is not easy to come by these days, but we have also make payment easy for students, only if they can make use of it.

We would love to inform all aspirants and Students, that they don’t have to wait till the semester starts before looking for the money to pay school fees. Students are advised to load their e-wallet as they have extra cash with them.

Take for example, a students that need to pay like a total amount of Fifty thousand Naira (N50,000) for one semester can start saving up for it from the previous semester, and can even start by paying any amount he/she has into his/her e-wallet.

This is a very simple but effective method of saving yourself the stress when the time comes for you to pay your school fees. You can pay little by little before the semester even start.

Rake note that the day you have N1,000 extra cash, pay it into your e-wallet.
